Fresco, the Italian word for fresh, is a form of mural painting in which earth pigments are painted directly on fresh, wet, lime plaster.  As the plaster dries, a chemical process bonds the pigment and plaster together. In this class we will make "mock" frescos. Students will learn about Italian Renaissance painters, and use them as inspiration to plan their own paintings. We will mix and use plaster to make our painting surface, but will paint onto it when it is dry. When the paintings are finished we will add a technique to "age" them, giving them the feeling of the frescos that still hang in Italy from hundreds of years ago.
